Building a Cultural Archive

Isis Kenney began collecting Hip Hop and sports culture at an early age, developing a deep and ongoing passion for gathering magazines, vinyl records, photojournalism books, and cultural artifacts. Her collecting practice grew over time into a consistent and intentional effort to preserve materials that document Hip Hop history, Black identity, and sports culture.

Through years of dedication, she built an extensive personal archive that reflects her commitment to safeguarding cultural memory and organizing important historical references. This evolving collection became a defining part of her relationship to culture, rooted in preservation, documentation, and a lifelong interest in capturing the stories, figures, and moments that shape Hip Hop and sports history.

Her Journey

Born in Poughkeepsie, New York, Isis Kenney was raised in a family of artists, educators, and designers who instilled in her a deep appreciation for culture, creativity, and community. Influenced by her father’s world of fine art and music and her mother’s commitment to education and empowerment, she developed a passion for preserving stories that are often overlooked. Drawing from generations of creative influence, Kenney transformed her love for hip hop culture into Hip Hop Fine Art™, a movement dedicated to elevating urban narratives through art and education.
